
Analogue 3D Firmware 1.5.0 Adds Internal Graphical Upscaling
Upscaling in the Right Place
Analogue has shipped 3DOS 1.5.0 for the Analogue 3D, and the headline feature is Internal Graphical Upscaling. The distinction that matters is where it happens. This is not an HDMI stage stretch or a sharpening filter applied to a finished frame: Analogue has extended the console's emulated RDP and VI so that horizontal resolution is doubled inside the graphics pipeline, producing "twice as many pixels onscreen without affecting 2D graphics." The company claims "no impact to timing authenticity or performance," and says the feature is synergistic with all of its Original Display Modes.
Why That Distinction Matters
Every upscaler on the market improves an N64 image after the console has finished drawing it, which means it is working with the blur, the dithering and the low polygon edge quality already baked in. Doing the work inside the rendering pipeline means the extra pixels are real geometry rather than interpolation. Keeping 2D elements untouched is the harder part of the trick, because N64 games routinely mix rendered 3D scenes with hand drawn interface art that looks wrong the moment you scale it.
The Rest of 1.5.0
Memories, the save state system introduced in 1.3.0, now loads instantaneously, and a new Recent Memory startup action boots straight back into your last session. Beyond that the release is a long list of corrections: RSP behaviour fixes, expanded progressive video support to reduce jitter, simultaneous button presses on the 8BitDo N64 Modkit, USB rumble, and a fix for wireless controller rumble that lingered after it should have stopped. The settings tree has been reorganised with a new Advanced menu. The download is 22.3 MB.
A Pattern Worth Noting
Time Extension headlined its coverage "A Game Changer," which is strong language for a firmware update. It is also the second substantial 3DOS release in a month, following 1.4.0 in June. Analogue's hardware shipped in November 2025 after repeated delays, and the company appears to be using firmware to deliver what the launch could not. For a $250 device whose entire value proposition is accuracy, adding a feature that improves the image without compromising timing is close to the ideal outcome.
